The Red Door is believed to be the codename for Call of Duty 2020. The same codename was spotted on PSN last month, when alpha development builds made their way onto Sony’s servers. Things have been quiet since then; the original listing remains, and Activision has yet to officially unveil this year’s Call of Duty. Now, the Microsoft Store has gotten in on that codename action. The Red Door now has its own page on the store, with the same red keyhole cover. Activision is listed as its publisher, just in case there was any doubt. This particular listing is strictly for the Xbox One version, with a file size of 81.65GB, similar to the one on PSN. It also has the same mature rating expected from Call of Duty games.
Then there’s this placeholder description, or perhaps it’s actually a reference to the game’s story. “There is more than one truth. If you go looking for answers, be ready to question everything and accept that nothing will ever be the same. The Red Door awaits, do you dare step through it?” it reads. This could indicate that we’re getting closer Call of Duty 2020’s proper reveal, but it could just as well be a Microsoft Store mishap (it’s been having a few of those lately). By that point in the year, all past Call of Duty games had already been revealed. In fact, July is usually closer to the game’s beta, following weeks of news. The running theory is that Activision may host the reveal itself in Warzone, perhaps through some sort of in-game event. Reports suggest Warzone’s upcoming Season 5 - set for the first week of August - is bringing the most drastic changes to the Warzone map yet, and players have dug up references to Frank Woods, so that could be where we’re heading. This year’s game is said to be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
