Darwin Project developer Scavengers has announced that it’s ceasing development on the battle royale shooter. The game’s April update will be its last “for the foreseeable future,” but servers will remain online at least until the end of the year. In a farewell blog post, the developer said it’s been trying everything to combat the shrinking player base, but it couldn’t solve the problem long-term. “Over the past years, we saw a decreasing playerbase, and have been working hard on finding solutions –from a new platform development (PS4) to bringing new content (class system, battle passes, systemic maps, customizable craftwheel, new tiles, live events), spectator interactions extension, and continuous optimizations,” wrote Scavengers....

Starting today and until August 4, Prime Gaming members will be available to claim a free PC copy of Battlefield 1, redeemable on Origin. Then, on August 2 until October 1, Battlefield 5 becomes available for free. You’ll be claiming the standard edition for either game. This means it does not include DLC for Battlefield 1, whereas this matters less in Battlefield 5’s case as all of its meaningful content was made available for free....

In a post-earnings call with investors, covering EA’s results for Q1 of FY22, the company talked a great deal about Battlefield 2042, and the series in general as it enters into a new era. Asked whether EA will go back to releasing a Battlefield game every other year, CEO Andrew Wilson said that is the company’s “orientation.” Battlefield releases have not typically followed a set cadence. A Bloomberg report states after the sucess of the single-player title Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the less-than-stellar performance of multiplayer title Anthem, multiplayer has been scrapped from the next Dragon Age game. According to those familiar with the matter, Dragon Age 4 originally had a heavy multiplayer focus but in recent months had the component removed. The aforementioned games, apparently, convinced EA that single-player games are still viable in the marketplace....

The company plans to do so via Twitch drops, a great way to ensure hordes (and alliances) of people flock to livestreams of the new expansion, in theory anyway. Sure you can just stick the stream on, mute the tab, then spend your time doing something else, but the marketing team can still point to the viewership numbers and the game’s high ranking on Twitch and claim success. The only issue is they’re giving away the Fel Drake, as well as the Dragon Kite pet....

In a post on Twitter, the studio said that The Medium would now be coming out on January 28, 2021, rather than the December 10 date that had previously been announced. This is something of a blow for Microsoft, as The Medium was one of the few titles available for the Xbox Series X/S this year. Bloober said that this delay is due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as other games on the release schedule....

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as clunky as that sounds, is apparently the name of this year’s unannounced Call of Duty game. That’s according to known leaker @Okami13_. The proven Twitter personality shared a cover art of the original Black Ops, with the words “Cold War” photo-shopped under the name. Eurogamer backed this up with its own sources, saying that the game is indeed called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War....

Activision has confirmed some high-level details about the expected convergence of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and the free-to-play battle royale mode Warzone. This integration won’t occur at launch, as initially expected. As part of the publisher’s earnings call for Q3 FY2020, CEO Bobby Kotick said that this will instead take place in December, with the launch of the game’s first season. Black Ops Cold War will follow the seasonal structure introduced in Modern Warfare, in that every season will last a couple of months and launch alongside a new Battle Pass....

Update 2: The official page for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered just went up on the German PlayStation Store. It’s priced €25 (so likely $30), and will indeed be released tomorrow, March 31. Infinity Ward has released the first trailer for Season three of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which covers the main game as well as free-to-play Warzone. Kicking off tomorrow on all platforms, Season three introduces a new operator in Alex from the game’s campaign. As last week’s leaks revealed, we’re also getting new maps for multiplayer. Just like every new season, there’s also a new Battle Pass for Season three....

The Season 5 update, which is rolling out now for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, appears to contain files that directly reference this year’s game: Call of Duty: Vanguard. Not only that, the files also contain the title treatment and official box art, which, among other things, confirms the reported WW2 setting, as well as the name. Alongside the standard and ultimate edition, there’s also a cross-gen bundle, which means that Activision is also charging an upgrade fee this time around, similar to what it did with Black Ops Cold War....

On Tuesday, Infinity Ward replaced Call of Duty: Warzone’s default Trios playlist with the limited time mode Scopes and Scatter Guns. The sniper rifles and shotguns mode is, for all intents and purposes, the new Trios, which caused a massive backlash from players interested in the vanilla experience who now had to join the bigger, more chaotic Quads mode. The developer has now acknowledged the demand for base Trios, and confirmed that the mode is returning later today as part of a playlist update that will be going live at 11pm PT, 2am ET (April 17), 7am UK (April 17)....

The infinite stim glitch is once again being removed from Call of Duty: Warzone. In notes for yesterday’s patch, developer Raven wrote that it was fixing the rather persistent issue in the battle royale game. The firm said that this occurred when players ended up stuck in a “throwback state after throwing back a live grenade.” The infinite stim glitch has been rather resilient. It first popped up last year, with Infinity Ward claiming that it had been fixed in October....

Around the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone, developer Infinity Ward revealed that it had tested the mode with 200 players, as well as squads bigger than three or four, but ended up settling on 150 players. Co-studio head, Patrick Kelly, also said at the time that the developer will add support for 200 players sometime after launch. Well, it now appears that Season 4 could be when that happens....
