The news comes from Nintendo’s annual report for the fiscal year ending March, 2020, which was published earlier this week. On page 41 of the 78-page report, salaries are listed for Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, director Shigeru Miyamoto, and General Manager of Entertainment Planning Shinya Takahashi. All three salaries are remarkably lower than their counterparts at other video game companies. For example, last year GamesIndustry.biz published a report on the most overpaid CEOs in the US games industry....

According to Riot, an open beta for the mobile version of League of Legends: Wild Rift will be made available in March. While currently playable in other parts of the world, this will be the first time it will be made available in North America. Wild Rift is also coming to consoles, but whether or not it too will be made available in March wasn’t stated. But you can at least expect to grab the beta off the App Store and Google Play....

For one reason or another, however, some would prefer to play only with players on their own platform, which is where the option to disable cross-play comes in. Except, it’s only available on PlayStation at this time. Though this might seem like another sneaky PlayStation-exclusive feature, the ability to disable cross-play has actually been available on other platforms in previous years. Though it often arrived late on Xbox, and would sometimes disappear and later return....

The version 1.2.0 update for Monster Hunter Stories 2 will arrive on August 5, and it adds a new co-op exclusive quest monster Kulve Taroth (thanks, Gematsu). It also includes the addition of monsters Hellblade Glavenus and Boltreaver Astalos. With the update, you can also expect new subquests, one of which will arrive tomorrow, and the others on August 19. In addition, Capcom also provided a roadmap for the game featuring information for September and October....

Mortal Kombat 11 is probably down on the list of games with an active modding scene, but every once in a while, someone decides to deliver a wild idea. We’ve seen camera mods before in NetherRealm’s latest, which offered a rare look at Fatalities and various stages from angles they weren’t meant to be seen. Modder Ermaccer’s contribution is MK11Hook, a modding suite that lets you mess around with the camera, control the game’s speed and more....

This week’s free title on the Epic Games Store is NBA 2K21. It will be a free download until May 27 when it will be replaced by a mystery game. PC players can now also experience cross-play for the game for Epic and Steam platforms. Alongside news of the freebie, 2K today revealed their ninth patch for the game on consoles. The patch will bring a summer theme to the 2K Beach, along with new WNBA uniforms and updates to arenas....

2K Games released a first-look at NBA 2K21 gameplay captured on PS5 this week. The footage looked stunning, much in the same way PS4’s gameplay debut did back in 2013. According to Visual Concepts, the next-gen version features updated lighting, textures, physics and new animations for player movement and impact. More than the visual quality on display, the PS5 footage looks much more alive thanks to unique AI interactions. The developer says there are over 150 of those, and you can see them in things like cheerleaders and mascots invading the court, as well as on the sidelines and even in crowds....

This news wasn’t entirely doom and gloom, however, as Schreier then mentioned what Eidos Montreal is currently working on. Alongside a new IP and co-development partnerships with Xbox (including Fable), Eidos Montreal is reportedly working on a new Deus Ex title. So far, the title is said to be in “very very early” development according to Schreier. Just a few months ago, back in August, Jeff Grub also spoke about Deus Ex making a comeback with GamesRadar....

Sony released a new firmware update for PlayStation 5 this morning. The incremental update, version 21.01-03.10.00.03-00, sadly doesn’t feature any exciting new additions. Sony instead offered a single patch note, and it’s the one PlayStation owners should be very familiar with: “This system software update improves system performance,” it reads. Like that patch note, everything else about this update is ordinary. It’s possible Sony is fixing bugs introduced with the massive April update, which was effectively the console’s first major firmware update since launch....

Krafton, the company that owns Bluehole, PUBG Corp., and Striking Distance is seemingly working on two other big new projects. Right now, the only publicly announced game is Striking Distance’s Dead Space spiritual successor The Callisto Protocol, due for release in 2022. But there’s more going on at the Korean company. In a Bloomberg profile of CEO Kim Chang-han, the longtime programmer and executive producer of PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds revealed that Krafton has two more PUBG projects in the works....

Nintendo’s latest game creation tool is Game Builder Garage - a unique little tool which feels inspired at once by the level-creating shenanigans of Super Mario Maker, and the more open-ended programming that was previously offered by the Labo Toy-Con Garage. The new game is a fascinating attempt to teach Nintendo’s basic game-making principles and approach in a fun way, through seven step-by-step lessons that then open up into free-form game creation....

Dubbed Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the new membership plan is coming to Nintendo Switch Online in late October with classic Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games. In addition to all the benefits of a Nintendo Switch Online membership such as online play, access to library of NES and Super NES games, and more, members can play select titles like Mario Kart 64 online with up to four players for the first time ever....

Nintendo is reportedly gearing up to start the assembly of its new, upgraded Switch model, with the company apparently targeting a September or October release for the new hardware. As per a new report by Bloomberg, the upgraded Nintendo Switch (which is aiming to replace the main Switch hardware, not the Nintendo Switch Lite) will be priced at over $299. This new Switch model may be announced prior to E3 to “allow publishers to showcase their full range of Switch games at the global event,” said Bloomberg....

Update 1.05 is now available for Nioh 2, and alongside plenty of bug fixes comes some adjustments. Once the update is applied to your game, you will gain Proficiency faster when using a weapon not as high in Proficiency your highest proficiency leveled weapon. Speaking of Proficiency, less is now required in a few of the Dojo missions. The update has also lowered the health of Gaki and some of their attack power, and the strength of a few overpowered attacks used by enemies has been lowered....

Devolver Digital and Mediatonic’s gameshow-inspired battle royale has made waves since it launched back in August 2020, selling more than seven million copies on Steam in its first month on sale and quickly becoming the most-downloaded PlayStation Plus game of all time. As a result of the success, players are eager to see the game launch on other platforms. But between some innocuous banter between Fall Guys’ Twitter account and the official Xbox UK account and the Xbox Game Pass Instagram account posting that “it’s coming”, it appears the wrong message has been sent to the gaming community....

The NPD has released its analysis for the month of May 2020, noting a year-over-year increase in both hardware and software. For the month of May, software was up 67% year-over-year (yoy) to $438 million compared to May 2019. According to NPD, this was the highest total achieved for a May month since $487 million was reported in 2010. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which was second place in April, returned to the top of the chart as May’s best-selling title and remains the best-selling game of 2020 year-to-date....
