Xbox Game Pass is a great tool that developers and publishers can use to wrench investment and attention back onto their games – especially when there’s a history that said developer wants to overcome. And can you think of any better example of that in recent memory than DICE’s unloveable Battlefield 2042?...

It’s no secret that live service games are the big money makers right now, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for more traditional story-driven games, according to Microsoft’s Phil Spencer. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the head of Xbox laid out how narrative single-player games are part of the platform’s strategy going forward. “I think we’re probably building more of those now than we’ve been in the history of Xbox,” Spencer told The Guardian, emphasising the need to support riskier projects, which in turn will be supported by the wider availability of demos and early access through Xbox Game Pass and streaming technology xCloud....

The game is set five years after XCOM 2, and for battles, you will choose between 11 agents with their own attacks and combat roles. It also features the new Breach Mode where you assign agents to entry points to set up an attack. You can expect changes to the turn-based system with Interleaved Turns....

Today’s unusual discovery may not necessarily fit the description of what a bug is, but it is amusing nonetheless. Reddit user Dunaike decided to land their helicopter close to where penguins hang out on the Breakaway map. Penguins are essentially part of the set dressing, to add a little bit of ambiance to the environment. But what they didn’t count on was… being able to repair them. That’s right, if you have a repair tool equipped - which no one uses - you can top up the health of penguin friends....

In a new trailer shown off during Ubisoft Forward 2021, the publisher announced that anyone that buys the Season Pass for the new shooter will be able to play as villains from past games – with Ubisoft making a big point of the game living up to its legacy of having a robust rogue’s gallery. It appears the characters will be added by some sort of hallucinogenic conceit, so you don’t have to suspend your disbelief too much if you opt to play as any of the past titles’ big bads....

According to a Bloomberg report, YouTube will reduce the default quality of videos to standard definition for the next 30 days. 720p and higher streaming will still be available, but you will have to select the option when clicking the gear icon. At present, the quality of streaming videos is already based on the strength of your internet connection. Under normal circumstances, your default may be less than 720p when you go to watch a video....

On Friday (May 13), HoYoverse gave us a first look at the studio’s next game, Zenless Zone Zero, an “urban fantasy ARPG”. Right off the bat the game looks like it’s going to have a lot of style, with flashy, over the top character designs, and fast paced action combat. The trailer very quickly differentiates itself from Genshin Impact, which very obviously has a fantasy influence, whereas Zenless Zone Zero looks more like Jet Set Radio or The World Ends With You....

Starting today, Zombie Army 4: Dead War players can look forward to faster frame rates, higher resolutions, and reduced loading time on PS5, and later this week on Xbox Series X/S. The final campaign mission for season two of Zombie Army 4: Dead War is now available on all platforms. Dead Zeppelin is the third and final mission in Season 2’s Death from Above campaign. In it, the Resistance airfield has been saved, but there is an undead airship that you will still need to contend with. You and others will need to chase the airship down, board it, and destroy it before it’s too late....

Capcom has said that digital sales make up around 80% of its game revenue. The Japanese publisher revealed this impressive ratio in response to an investor question [PDF]. Capcom says its target is for digital to reach 90% of game sales, and the company will continue to promote its digital strategy going forward in order to reach that target. The company, however, is aware that some players will always prefer to own a physical copy, which is what it believes that 10% accounts for....

The reveal itself wasn’t anything special; we got a story trailer setting up the tone and showing the post-WW2 setting. It had a mix of CG and some gameplay, as is standard, with the promise of more actual gameplay footage down the line. All in all, it was a fairly standard affair, but eagle-eyed fans noticed something strange in the reveal trailer. Traditionally, reveal trailers start out with “Activision presents”, and if they don’t, the company’s logo typically appears somewhere in there....

Earlier today, Marvel’s Avengers fans spotted a curious line on the store page for the game’s PS4 version on UK retailer Base’s website. The detail, which has since been removed, revealed that Spider-Man is a playable character in the game, but only on PS4. It seems a little too close to release for a detail this major to have been hiding, but some nonetheless took it at face value. Base has since updated its Marvel’s Avengers PS4 listing to remove that line, telling IGN that it had been on the product page since E3 2019, and that it was not correct....

According to the developer, the PC version features multiple performance modes, ultra-wide screen support, and has various graphical settings and advanced options. It supports x64 architecture and DX12 only, does not feature Ray Tracing, and supports DLSS modes such as Ultra-Performance, Performance, Balanced, and Quality. DLSS can also be turned off. It features ultra-wide screen support with a 21:9 aspect ratio, but pre-rendered cutscenes will render in 16:9. Like the first game, it features an unlocked framerate, and it supports full screen, windowed, and borderless displays....

After announcing that it would be canceling a sequel in order to focus on providing updates for the first game, the three-person development team is already starting to roll out the updates. The latest patch, which went live over the weekend, has seen no official patch notes – but that hasn’t stopped the community from deducing exactly what’s been changed in-game themselves. Perhaps the most robust investigation into what’s changed has come from Attack of the Fanboy, who noticed that some changes have been made to how group decisions are made in the game itself....

If you haven’t seen it, Waterworld stars Kevin Costner, and is a post-apocalyptic world way off in the year 2500, where water levels have risen so high every continent is underwater. In an episode of The Simpsons called The Springfield Files, Millhouse plays an arcade game adaptation of the film, having to pay 40 quarters, a regular amount to play for an arcade game. And now indie dev Macaw45 has made it actually playable, as it was just a small joke in the original episode....

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons clothing line features minimalist tees printed with Animal Crossing-related characters, logos, and more. It includes 22 designs for men, women, children, and babies. Customers can only buy one of each shirt – so no doubling up. Men’s and women’s tees cost $19.90, and children’s and babies’ cost $9.90. The collection also apparently includes accessories such as towels and tote bags. All the UT patterns appear in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons in-game clothing shop for characters to wear too....

Both Ark: Survival Evolved and Samurai Shodown Neogeo Collection are free this week on the Epic Games Store. Ark: Survival Evolved was originally rumored to be last week’s game, but it ended up being Overcooked. In the game, you are stranded on an island and must learn to survive. You can kill or tame the various creatures roaming the land, and encounter other players. Samurai Shodown Neogeo Collection includes all six entires in the fighting series, plus Samurai Shodown V Perfect....

Already available on PC, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and on Xbox Game Pass, the game will arrive on PlayStation 4 and PS5 on October 6. The game features cars from different rally eras, including classics from the 60’s, 80’s, Group B, Group S and Group A, which you will drive across rally locations such as Norway, Finland, Germany, and more. There are 61 cars in total in the base game, 60 rally stages, daily and weekly challenges with leaderboards, photo and replay mode, and Ghost Racing....
