Capcom has sorted out the naming of its various Resident Evil games on Steam. Previously, every game title included both the English and Japanese names. For example, the Resident Evil 2 remake appeared as Resident Evil 2 / BIOHAZARD RE: 2. This extended to most entries in the series, which made it look awkward in everyone’s Steam library. Capitalising some words and not others also contributed to this mess, but it’s thankfully all been resolved....

For those who like playing as a Mastermind in Resident Evil Resistance, you will be able to play as Resident Evil 3 antagonist Nicholai Ginovaef once May rolls around. The news was announced on the official Resident Evil Twitter account (thanks, Siliconera). Other Masterminds include Alex Wesker, Annette Birkin, and Ozwell E. Spencer. Believe it or not, there are actually people who’ve never played a Resident Evil game! Can you imagine? What people can exist in the year 2021 without having played a single game in this survival horror franchise? It’s me, I’m those people. I know, I know, but I’m trying to change that with Capcom’s newest edition to the series, Resident Evil Village. Capcom allowed me to view an unseen hour-long gameplay demo and as someone who was once scared to death of horror games, I must say, I’m pretty excited....

If you are bummed that the Resident Evil Village Maiden demo is only coming to PS5, you will be pleased to know another demo is in the works. But you will have to wait until spring to try it. Capcom announced during its stream this evening that a new demo would be released and that it would come to all platforms. Until then, PS5 players can try the demo currently available....

The main theme of World of Warcraft Shadowlands is apparently that of player agency, and the choice between which Covenant of the afterlife you’ll champion throughout your time in the afterlife. Thanks to Blizzard’s presentation we now know a lot more about how the Covenant system will work day-to-day. The main feature discussed was the new Soulbind system, which we’ve been promised will help balance all those overpowered global and class-specific Covenant abilities we gain access to as we level through Bastion, Ardenweald, Maldraxxus and Revendreth, and ultimately have to choose between as we lock in our allegiance for the remainder of the expansion....

Skyrim Anniversary Edition is the game’s “most definitive version”. It includes the base game, and all three expansions. But the big news this time is the inclusion of 500 pieces of Creation Club (mods) content. This content brings much to the game, from simple things like weapons and spells, to more meaningful additions like quests and bosses. Among them are also fishing, survival mode and new Saints and Seducers quests....

Update: Sony has reached out to Games Industry to say that it has not made any reductions to PS5’s production capacity since mass production began. “While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false,” said Sony in a statement. “We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production.” Original story: Sony has run into production troubles with the PlayStation 5’s custom SoC (system on chip), essentially the brain of every console....

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will be released for PS4, Sony confirmed today. According to the company, while the three games were developed to showcase the PS5 and its “unique next-gen features” PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy the games when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive....

Steam Next Fest: February 2022 Edition runs through February 28 and alongside demos, developers are taking part in livestreams to discuss their upcoming releases. There are also chats with the devs themselves, and this will continue for the duration. There will be demos available for titles such as Flight of Nova, a flight simulation where you pilot spacecraft according to laws of physics; DreadXP’s survival horror game with puppets My Friendly Neighborhood; retro action-RPG Souldiers; side-scrolling adventure Little Orpheus from The Chinese Room; cozy organization puzzle game A Little To The Left; and creepy adventure game Beacon Pines....

Every year, I use the Steam Winter Sale as an excuse to pick up a handful of games I’ve eyed up for months, but haven’t yet had the excuse to buy. It’s also a fantastic means of buying surprise Christmas gifts for long-distance friends and family! Sure enough, most of the games I buy each winter will sit in my Steam library for the entirety of the next year.
