The Companions update for No Man’s Sky is now available to download for free. Out now for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the update allows you to tame, breed, train and even speak to the creatures you encounter. You can adopt the creatures and form close bonds, and they will travel side-by-side with you as you adventure through the universe. You can train them to scan for resources, find hazards, provide light, hunt dangerous fauna, find settlements, excavate buried treasure, and mine for materials....

The GeForce Game Ready Driver is now available for the Call of Duty: Balck Ops Cold War PC beta which kicks off on October 15. In addition, it enables support for Nvidia Reflex in the beta, allowing players to reduce system latency and increase competitiveness. Reflex promises faster response times, improved shot accuracy, the ability to react to enemy actions faster, and the peeker’s advantage is reduced or even nullified....

While the console-bound battle between Sony and Microsoft heats up, things are also getting pretty tasty in the PC graphics space. Last month, Nvidia debuted and then released the RTX 3080 and 3090 - two of the most powerful graphics cards ever released. This week, AMD has fired back with its own all-new GPUs - and Nvidia is unleashing the GeForce RTX 3070, envisioned as a more accessible, affordable, mid-range card....

Hades has become something of a superhit, with the roguelike action game enjoying at least 1,000,000 sales across PC and Nintendo Switch to date. The game quickly became one of the highest-rated titles of the year after a stealth launch via a Nintendo Direct Mini back in September 2020. Since then, it’s dominated the gaming conversation thanks to its likable cast, addictive gameplay loop, and impressive writing. But we very nearly saw one of the game’s most widely reviled characters star in the leading role....

The developer didn’t say what content we can expect from the free update, or even hint at when it’s going to be released. But we’re going to certainly get some answers on Monday, November 15 when the Outriders Broadcast returns. As always, you’ll be able to follow along on Twitch. The show goes live at 9am PT, 12pm ET, 5pm UK. Outriders had a rocky launch, but People Can Fly has been improving balance, loot, connectivity, and the game’s general technical state in patches....

The new game was shown off during today’s Xbox and Bethesda Game Showcase, with a lengthy trailer unveiling the release date, as well as a new character called Junker Queen. Overwatch 2 will be free to play at launch too, with the PvP mode starting out in early access. In the new trailer, which you can watch below, new character designs were highlighted. There was even PvP gameplay, showing some of the new movesets for characters like Tracer....

For Overwatch – one of the biggest games that popularised the use of loot boxes in the first place – to renege and opt for the battle pass (as seen in Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and many others besides)… that’s a big move. Seismic. It had the potential to rewrite the rule book, set a precedent for responsible and engaging progression whilst still monetizing the game. Because that, essentially, is what this is all about....

The account, with a message that said “sometimes we just like a good landscape picture #newprofilepic” leads you to look at the new icon – which has a landscape seemingly reminiscent of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. If you click through to the picture and look beyond the Game Pass branding, you’ll clock a landscape that looks quite a lot like the Icelandic-inspired landscapes you’ll see in Kojima’s latest sci-fi epic....

One of the top developers on the rebooted Perfect Dark is leaving the project. Design director Drew Murray announced his departure from the studio in a thread on Twitter, saying that he was bidding Microsoft’s The Initiative studio farewell in order to focus more on his personal life. He joined the developer back in November 2018 having previously worked at Ratchet & Clank studio Insomniac for over a decade. “After two wild years helping start The Initiative and rebooting Perfect Dark, it’s time for me to say a tearful and bittersweet goodbye to my team at The Initiative,” he wrote....

Persona 4 Golden is a very good game. The extended, expanded version of one of the most beloved Japanese role-playing games of the PlayStation 2 era, it trades in a carefree charm that’s perfectly matched to the player’s activities, whiling away your days in a sleepy Japanese suburb. For those who came to the series with the also-excellent Persona 5, this is where its predecessor differs most. Where P5 is all about slick style and razor-sharp presentation amid the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, P4G is a softer game across the board....

The trouble is, Persona 5 Royal asks you questions you might actually expect to hear in school, so if you haven’t brushed up on your math and logic skills in a while, you might be caught short once the teacher’s baleful gaze falls on you. You face the prospect of exams every couple of months as well, where your teachers toss questions using knowledge and ideas from the questions they asked during the regular semester....

In case you’re new to the charming series, Nintendo has pushed out a new trailer aimed at getting you familiar with the funny little creatures. You can see the trailer below, and it’s a pretty good touchstone to get acquainted (or re-acquainted) with the game if it’s been a while since you’ve played the series. It makes sense that Nintendo wants to re-release the game on Switch: precious few people actually owned a Wii U, and the company has seen some pretty good results of re-selling Wii U titles on the hybrid console....

A senior PlayStation executive has been fired from Sony after an amateur sting operation has allegedly provided evidene that he was attempting to engage in sexual activity with a 15-year-old boy (via GamesIndustry.biz). YouTube channel People v. Preds, which sets up stings to catch alleged predators in action, posted a video that seems to show George Cacioppo – previously senior vice president of engineering for PlayStation Network that had been with the company for more than eight years – waiting to meet with a 15-year-old, allegedly for sexual reasons....

That dream never really came true, of course. While I absolutely see the quality in later generations, I think it’s fair to say that Pokemon stagnated. It gently iterated on the formula of past games, and even when it was time to make the jump to 3D, it played it surprisingly safe. The last all-new entry, 2019’s Sword and Shield, took baby steps towards truly shaking things up. But now, 20 years later, the dream feels like it is reality in Pokemon Legends: Arceus....

The trial weekend will be open to users on PlayStation 4 with PlayStation Plus, as well as PC players with cross-play support, developer IllFonic announced today in a post on the official PlayStation blog. For those interested, Predator: Hunting Grounds will be available to download starting March 27 at 3pm JST in Japan, 4pm GMT in Europe, and 5pm PST in North America. The studio has also just revealed the game’s cover art, which you can check out below....

Developer Housemarque has given us more of a look of its upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal, this time with a focus on the game’s combat. In a post on PlayStation Blog, creative director Harry Krueger wrote that players will be able to augment the various weapons that protagonist Selene picks up over the course of the game with Weapon Traits. These modify the game in a variety of ways. Each weapon also features a random alt-fire mode, meaning that players can have an extra secondary option to take down foes....

The launch of the PS5, at least in the few places where the console is officially available, has been fairly smooth so far. But one big problem in particular has been encountered by a number of early adopters. It all has something to do with the PS5’s Rest Mode, which some believe to be the root cause of the big storage corruption problem that bricked one YouTuber’s console. So what is going on?...
