It’s not often that video games set out to mimic small things. Photorealism tends to depict the world at a scale that humans can walk around in. But, swivelling a macro-lens onto that Unreal Engine camera and pointing it at digital miniatures produces a wonderful effect that makes RAILGRADE’s otherwise fairly standard route plan puzzling an absolute joy to get stuck into. In short, it’s transportive. For me, it throws me right back to my childhood bedroom, where a constantly reconfigured TOMY train set enjoyed permanent residence on the floor, forever delivering assorted handfuls of lego bricks between the Ghostbusters fire station and a permanently downed Star Trek: The Next Generation shuttlecraft....

Speaking during a New York Gaming Awards Twitch stream, Reggie Fils-Aime said after the “poor performance” of Wii U, one of his lasting memories of being with Nintendo was the release of Switch. As is custom after each quarterly earnings reveal, Capcom has provided updated sales figures for all of its best-selling games. Unsurprisingly, Monster Hunter: World has retained its top spot, having now sold 16.1 million copies, tallying the main game only on PC, PS4 and Xbox One both physically and digitally. Back in August of 2020, the Halo Infinite store page made a mention of a battle royale mode, and later that year a rumour emerged that suggested the game would in fact be receiving such a mode sometime in 2021. That obviously never happened, but frequent Halo assist studio Certain Affinity is working on something to do with Halo Infinite, and there are plenty of rumours that that is where the battle royale mode is being developed....

According to the developer, at the start of Season 15 in Destiny 2, it will deprecate the passively-earned currency Synthstrand, which players use to purchase transmog - known as Armor Synthesis - bounties from Ada-1. In its place, the bounties will be purchasable for 10,000 Glimmer instead. The hope is that the change reduces the time needed to earn 10 Synthweave tokens per class each Season. Bungie states that removing the currency will also free up a slot in the Consumables inventory bucket....

Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan is very positive about the PS5’s chances during the console’s first fiscal year. Speaking to Korean outlet N Sports, Ryan said that Sony expects PS5 to sell more in its first fiscal year than PS4 did, which was already a big target to hit. The PS4 sold 7 million units by the end of the fiscal year it launched into. Sony, however, is reportedly working on producing around 15 million units during the same window, so the platform holder is indeed expecting high demand to warrant that investment....
