I’ve been playing some Splitgate. The long and short of it is it’s a free-to-play multiplayer FPS. Think Halo meets Portal. What a combination, right? Splitgate isn’t new, it’s been out for a while now in beta. It used to be called Splitgate Arena Warfare but it didn’t get much traction back in 2019. Now it’s back and blown up to the point where the servers can’t facilitate the demand of players trying to play, creating queues of up to an hour to log on....

The two publishers announced the $300 million cash transaction this morning, confirming that the deal includes over 50 IPs. The acquisition adds around 1,100 new employees to Embracer across the three studios’ eight worldwide locations. “The portfolio of IP consists of iconic franchises appreciated by critics and players alike. For example, two original IPs, Tomb Raider and Deus Ex, have sold AAA units of ~88M and ~12M, respectively,” Embracer said in a press release....

One of the mysteries surrounding the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, which multiple reports revealed is currently in the works, has actually been the identity of the team behind it. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who was among the first to reveal that a Knights of the Old Republic remake is in development, has now confirmed that Aspyr is the studio behind it. Eurogamer also corroborated this news, adding that the project is going to be more of a remake than a straight remaster....

Steam Next Fest: October 2021 Edition runs through October 7 and alongside demos, developers will be taking part in livestreams to discuss their upcoming releases. There will also be chats with the devs themselves, and this will continue throughout the week. There will be demos available for titles such as real-time strategy game Starship Troopers - Terran Command; virtual hobby simulator Model Builder; point-and-click psychological horror detective game Saint Kotar; 90’s-fuelled retro arcade adventure Arcade Paradise; the first playable demo of first person psychological thriller Martha Is Dead; sandbox puzzle game Trading Time; and bullet ridden action game DeathrunTV....

In case you haven’t managed to get your Souls-like fix with Elden Ring, Steelrising is an upcoming take on the genre from Greedfall developer Spiders. Not much has been shown off from the game, but publisher Nacon released a five minute gameplay video showing off the game properly. However, the game has also now been pushed from June to September 8. Vibes wise, things are more in the Bloodborne direction, seeing as it’s set in Paris in 1789....

Most curious of all, however, is the new area I got to explore in this new hands-onl. Called the Refrin Wetlands, it bears a striking resemblance to a zone from another Final Fantasy, and teases at the edges of what the nature of FF Origin’s story really is. To get specific - this new zone is clearly at the very least inspired by the Sunleth Waterscape, an area from Final Fantasy 13....

Stripe has been present in MultiVersus via the menu screen for a little while now, soft announcing the character alongside Black Adam as upcoming fighters. That being said, other characters such as Rick and Morty from… Rick & Morty have stepped in ahead of the teased pair. As for how Stripe is going to play, we frankly have absolutely no clue whatsoever. However, if Gizmo is this madcap, popcorn throwing and car driving maniac, you can only imagine how aggressive and ruthless his evil counterpart will be....

Sarah Connor from the Terminator series and the T-800 murder robot have both come to Fortnite. In a blog post, Epic revealed that the two character skins are available right now in the item shop as part of the Future War Set. There are two different variants for Connor; one has her decked out in body armour, a black cap and shades, while the other has the Terminator murderer in just a tank top and trousers....

Bearing in mind that it’s still early days for the map, this rework is beginning to feel like the best update of its type we’ve seen in a while, having raised the quality of Rebirth Island to a point far above previous iterations. While some feel that Caldera has missed the mark, Rebirth Island is shining as one of the best Warzone maps we’ve seen in some time. For those not in the know, Rebirth Island has been an ongoing presence in Warzone for a while now....

It appears that not everyone who may be anticipating the title will be able to jump in as of December 2, with The Callisto Protocol’s release being cancelled in Japan. The decision was announced via the official Japanese Twitter account for The Callisto Protocol, embedded below (in Japanese, obviously). Keen-eyed players may have noticed a pretty glaring omission from the latest Insomniac Games title – the Chrysler Building. The monolithic structure, which was present back in the PS4 release of Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018 (and lots of other Marvel media, to boot) didn’t quite make it into the latest web-slinging game thanks to new ownership taking over the Art Deco landmark in 2019. “When creating our representation of the city we wanted to include as many landmarks as we could to add to the sense of immersion,” James Stevenson, Insomniac’s community director, told Game Informer in an interview....

What it’s getting, by the way, feels like the pretty classic small game from Square Enix treatment. It got a surprisingly big-time announcement, making its debut in one of Sony’s high-profile State of Play broadcasts. After that, though, it appeared relegated to second-tier status. Insomniac Games have released the Ratchet & Clank PS5 update which allows the game to run at 60fps on the console. The update was slated to be released for the 2016 game in April, with no specific date attached, but Insomniac has pushed it out early. Speaking of the game, you have until the end of today to download the game completely for free without the need for a PS Plus subscription as part of Sony’s Play at Home initiative....
